Ahmadun Yosi Herfanda Suatu hari (1994), saat meliput konflik Timtim, saya sempat bertemu dan berbincang-bincang dengan seorang mahasiswi Universitas Dili, gadis Indo-Portu. Gadis ini mengaku punya pacar seorang aktifis Clandestin yang berada di hutan. Pada saat yang sama saya mendengar kabar banyak kasus perkosan terhadap gadis Indo-Portu. Ada dugaan kejahatan seksual itu dilakukan oleh tentara, namun berkembang juga dugaan bahwa kejahatan itu dilakukan oleh kalangan Clandestin sendiri untuk memberi citra buruk pada TNI. Dengan semangat keberpihakan pada Indonesia sekaligus pembelaan pada kaum perempuan Timtim, kedua bahan (sumber ide) cerita itu saya gabung, saya rekayasa jadi cerita baru, saya kemas dengan tema “pengkhianatan akhirnya berbuah pengkhianatan juga”, dan jadilah cerpen “Ombak Berdansa di Liquisa”. Poster by Basuki Resobowo 1977 Abstract: This article examines whether the experiences of Portuguese and Indonesian colonial rule in East Timor acted as a unifying factor, creating a sense of East Timorese national identity, inspiring its poets to engage in a revolutionary and anti-colonial lyrical discourse that mirrored the aspirations of those fighting for independence. It also considers the significance of contemporary East Timorese poetry that has elements of a counterdiscourse in a postcolonial, independent East Timor, asking whether the apparent unity of anti-colonial lyric voices has fractured, and whether the disappearance of the oppressive presence of Indonesia means that there is no power that can inspire a concerted reaction amongst East Timorese poets.
